The Wessex Learning Centre, The Inner Close, Winchester Cathedral
Almost 100 years ago, Dean Selwyn of Winchester edited a book of essays entitled Essays Catholic and Critical in which the contributors tried to ‘square the circle’ by holding a ‘liberal Catholic’ position within the Church of England.
In this talk, Professor Wheeler looks at Dean Selwyn’s ideas about tradition and biblical criticism and argues that we need to be more fully aware of who we are at the Cathedral, and of where we came from, if we are to square the circle by flourishing as Anglicans in a society in flight from Church affiliation.
