In this concert Barley’s ‘Living Programme Notes’ bring detail and in-depth understanding to an audience with examples played by Barley and ensemble musicians.  The Protecting Veil, unveiled. Themes covered will include the influence of Indian classical music on Tavener and  The Protecting Veil, the way in which Tavener used numbers and geometry, the Eternal Feminine, The Protecting Veil  as a song for instruments, the map of Christian Orthodox feast days in the piece and how this is relevant, also for those who are not religious in understanding the piece, and why this is the best cello concerto written in the last 50 years.
