The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra - 'Contemplations'

‘Contemplations’

This unique concert by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra features history in the making; the World Premiere of the 'Hampshire Symphony' by Calin Huma.

This programme brings to Winchester the celebrated Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and renowned violinist Alexandru Tomescu under the baton of brilliant conductor Christopher Petrie, pairing Saint-Saëns impressionistic Violin Concerto No.3 with a musical gem of sheer Romantic indulgence by little-known Romanian composer Ciprian Porumbescu.

The second part will feature the World Premiere of Huma’s Symphony No. 2, also to be known as the ‘Hampshire Symphony'. Having recently recorded his Symphony No. 1 and Piano Concerto with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, the composer, born in Romania and resident of Hampshire for over 25 years, praises the rich heritage of Hampshire, his adoptive homeland, throughout this new symphony. Known for his luscious harmony and beautiful sense of melody, his neo-romantic compositions combine tonal inflections from his Romanian ‘roots' with the spirit of Hampshire.
