Bernstein Chichester Psalms
Finzi Lo, the full, the sacrifice (sung by Winchester College Chapel Choir)
One of the best loved choral works of the 20th century, Morris Durufle’s beautiful Requiem,
forms the centre piece of this concert with Winchester Music Club and the Winchester College
choirs. Begun during the Second World War but not completed until 1947, it is based on
Gregorian chant, which gives the work a timeless feel. Contrasting with the Requiem are two
other works from the middle of the last century: from England, Gerald Finzi’s extended Anthem
Lo, the full, final sacrifice, and from the USA, Leonard Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms, composed in
1965 for the Southern Cathedrals Festival.
Tickets £10-£35 plus £1 per ticket booking fee (capped at £5 per transaction)

Join us for an evening of music, laughter and delight at Winchester Cathedral. This year, we are thrilled to welcome award-winning comedian, Hugh Dennis, star of BBC One's Outnumbered, Radio 4’s The Now Show and BBC Two's Mock the Week, who will offer amusing observations on the ups and downs of family life at Christmas time. The evening will be hosted by BBC South Today’s Sally Taylor, with uplifting performances of traditional and light-hearted carols sung by the Cathedral Choir.
